The Playdrome is a 24 lane bowling and entertainment center located in Devon, Pennsylvania. The bowling alley’s owner found that over the years their lighting systems had been overlooked when other upgrades to the facility were made. After examining the areas being considered for renovation, which included lighting above the lanes, women’s locker rooms, pin setting machines, and lighting above the desk area, it was clear that a new system that would also decrease increase costs would be a perfect upgrade. The solution developed was to replace existing 1 lamp magnetic ballasts and T12 fixtures with energy efficient 2 lamp electronic ballasts and T8 lamp combos. This solution offered improved light quality while using less wattage, and the 2 lamp ballast system greatly decreased material and labor costs since only 59 were installed compared to the 110 previously being used. Once completed the area, including the lanes, bowling balls, and paintings were described as much brighter, and more enjoyable. The owner is currently saving over $3,000 per year in utility costs and is looking at converting other buildings he owns. |
