A chemical plant was using inefficient lighting to light its production facility. Outfitted with forty 400-watt high pressure sodium fixtures, it was difficult to replace bulbs and the fixtures' light output was beginning to fade. Colonial Electric was able to develop a solution that would fit their low ceiling height, reduce the number of light fixtures, increase light output and decrease the amount of energy needed to light the facility. The plant installed thirty-five 32-watt 6-lamp hi-bay fluorescent T8’s with sensors. The light output increased so dramatically that employees commented that it improved their mood and the plant noticed an increase in production. Plus, the company saved so much energy that the payback on their investment was only 1.5 years.
